Located in Shreveport, Louisiana, Rice & Kendig has represented clients in North Louisiana and East Texas for over 30 years using creative approaches to protecting the rights of injured families, children, and the elderly. Established in 1971 by M. Carl Rice, it now includes William F. Kendig who joined in 1990, and J. Marshall Rice, a member since 2003.
We have tried hundreds of cases to judgment and verdict, resulting in the recovery of millions of dollars on behalf of our clients including several individual awards in excess of a million dollars each. We have the largest reported jury verdict in Louisiana for Fibromyalgia, Kessler v. Southmark Corp., No. 25,941-CA (La. App. 2 Cir. 9/21/94); 643 So.2d 345; and at the time of judgment, the largest jury verdict for wrongful death, McGrail v. Lee, No. 35,756-CA (La. App. 2 Cir. 04/03/02); 814 So.2d 729. Other significant cases include Perkins v. McDow, Nos. 92-C-2192 and 92-C-2709 (La. 02/22/93); 615 So.2d 312, reversal of “second permitee” rule by the Louisiana Supreme Court and Haynes v. Shumake, 582 So.2d 959 (La. App. 2 Cir. 06/19/91) which required uninsured motorist carriers to conduct their own investigation, rather than requiring the insured to furnish a never ending list of proof. Because of our willingness to go to trial, we have received pretrial settlements on behalf of thousands of clients, many in excess of a million dollars.
